In the Bible there is a significant place which is closely related to our salvation. What do you think it is? It is the garden of Eden. The history of Eden shows us the origin of human beings. And it shows the history of human death and the secret of life as well.

Men have come to die since the garden of Eden. Then, how can we be delivered from death? That is the subject of the Holy Bible. As the saying goes, where there is a problem, there is a solution. First, let's have a look at the book of Matthew.

Matt. 13:34 『Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoke through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world."』

Jesus uttered things which had been hidden since the creation of the world by using a parable. Among the 66 books of the Bible, which book has the history of the creation of the world? It's Genesis. The book of Genesis has a lot of parabolic stories. Among them, let's study about the tree of life.

Gen. 2:16-17 『And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge fo good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."』

In the middle of the garden of Eden, the LORD God placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But they violated God's command and ate from the forbidden tree, being tempted by the devil. From that time, death entered the world.

Since the garden of Eden, has God ever given us a chance to be saved from death? Let's have a look at Genesis 3:22

Gen. 3:22 『And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."』

Here is a certain way to live forever. What is it? It is to eat from the tree of life. Then, what is the reality of the tree of life? Let's have a look at the book of John.

John 6:53 『Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."』

According to the book of Genesis, what do we have to eat to have eternal life? (The fruit of the tree of life)
But in the book of John, what do we have to eat to get eternal life? (Jesus' flesh and blood)

Then, what is Jesus in Eden? (The tree of life)
Yes, the tree of life in Eden represents Jesus. To eat Jesus' flesh and drink His blood is to eat from the tree of life in Eden. We must eat Jesus' flesh and drink His blood to have eternal life.

By the way, how can we eat Jesus who is the reality of the tree of life? Is it possible for us to eat a man? We are not cannibals. This word is connected with Matthew 26:17, through which we can see how to eat Jesus' flesh and to drink His blood.

Matt. 26:17-28 『On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover? He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him. 'The teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house." So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover. ... While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat: this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. ..."』

The Passover is a ceremony to eat Jesus who is the reality of the tree of life. Without celebrationg the Passover, there is no way to eat from the tree of life in Eden.

As we've studied so far, the tree of life stands for Jesus Christ. And the prophecy about the tree of life was fulfilled through the Passover. To men, who become mortal by eating the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the Passover is the only way to eternal life. By celebrating the Passover, we can eat from the tree of life and gain eternal life. Let's celebrate the Passover, and we will have the forgiveness of our sins and will be saved.
